OIE coordinates a full range of international activities and services for domestic and international undergraduates, graduates, professors and researchers. We are proud that the mission and related goals of OIE contribute toward the internationalization and diversification goals of the University's Educating Illinois plan.
Practically speaking, OIE manages numerous International Linkages across all continents so that hundreds of students, both international and domestic, may study abroad at Illinois State or around the world; partners with University departments to enhance mutual understanding across disciplines and cultures by hosting and exchanging Illinois State faculty and international researchers and professors; and provides professional development seminars in management for participants from developing government, nonprofit and private organizations.
The mission of the Office of International Studies and Programs is to lead the comprehensive internationalization of Illinois State University to be a globally connected university.
In 1968, a Faculty-Student Task Force on International Education called for the establishment of the Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP) to foster the development of foreign study programs, faculty exchanges, co-curricular cross-cultural programs, and a foreign student program.
Over the years, OISP has become an increasingly important and visible facilitator of the educational goals of Illinois State University, as the demands for globalization and international programming impact our university and surrounding communities in many different and challenging ways.
Illinois State is preparing students for a globally connected society through comprehensive campus internationalization. This includes expanding internationally-oriented courses, programs, organizations, and services. The Office of International Engagement (OIE) is responsible for developing partnerships, pathways, and programs that emphasize the importance of international education. This is a collaborative effort by many departments and offices, making internationalization an institutional priority.
The Faculty and Staff from the International Engagement Department are a diverse and experienced group of individuals who are dedicated to promoting global education and cultural exchange.
